405. Skydiving sycophants and the unfortunate dum dums who try to catch them when they reach the ground

I like to share a drawing prompt to help anyone who is struggling to create, just be able to create something fun! As always, if you draw something up, please send it my way! I'd love to see it, post it for others and even maybe collab with it…

This brings me to the awesome Jason Chatfield! He runs the amazing substack, New York Cartoons and just launched another substack, Process Junkie, which delving into his process and the process of other creatives. I’ve loved the stuff he has been doing on substack for years and he was one of the many people convincing me to try this thing out.

Jason sent me the Skydiving sycophant below.

I love it but we are missing the dum dums who try to catch them when they reach the ground.

No worries - I got this.

I drew up two versions of the dum dums to finish it off. I tried to mimic Jason’s style to make it as seamless as possible. Thankfully we both have a goofy silly cartooniness to our work. This is a compliment. Remember this is coming from two guys who were happiest in life when they were called “idiots” for MAD Magazine.

One is genuinely trying to help and the other is just protesting skydiving. Really, does what your protesting need to make sense anymore? I’m sure God hates whatever you are saying God does or thinks anyway.

This was fun to break out the watercolor even for a little bit like this. Nothing beats traditional ink and nib. Watercolor isn’t bad either…especially when it is loose and quick like this. So in the end I forced a collaboration with Jason whether he likes it or not! Sorry bud…
