Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas is an all time baddie. He lives in a dungeon, has minions who do his bidding (Lock, Shock and Barrel) and loves a good dice game! Plus he has fun decorations everywhere, a black light and even loves to belt out a show tune before torturing and killing his prey! If this isn’t wholesome Disney fun, I don’t know what is!
I painted this piece on Christmas Eve with Lil Oogie sleeping on his torture rack clutching his Lock, Shock and Barrel rag dolls. It was the most peaceful part of the day.

Oogie Boogie Process
I went through a bunch of different ideas before getting to the final composition in my sketchbook. I thought about dice stacked up for the bed frame, using the spinning wheel idea and working from a frontal view, but ultimately came to the simple angled view of the torture rack with skelly end table.
Inks with a brush and india ink on watercolor paper. Probably the most zen I’ll ever be within the whole process.
Love his little skeleton end table - an actual prop from the movie.
Well if you liked that, please share it with a friend!
And as always if you didn’t like it, share it with an enemy!
Until next time…
